Mandible
Mandible: Lower jawbone; largest, strongest, and only movable bone of the skull.
Body of Mandible: Horizontal, U-shaped portion that holds the lower teeth.
Ramus: Vertical extensions on each side of the mandible, connecting the jaw to the skull.
Mandibular Angle: Angle where the body and ramus meet, located at the back corner of the jaw.
Condylar Process: Posterior projection of the ramus, forms the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) with the temporal bone.
Coronoid Process: Anterior projection of the ramus, attachment point for the temporalis muscle.
Mandibular Notch: Depression between the condylar and coronoid processes.
Alveolar Part: Ridge that holds the lower teeth sockets.
Mental Foramen: Openings on each side of the mandible body, allowing nerves and blood vessels to pass to the chin and lower lip.
Mandibular Foramen: Located on the inner surface of the ramus, providing passage for the inferior alveolar nerve and vessels.
Function: Enables chewing, supports lower teeth, and provides structure to the lower face.
