Calcaneus
The calcaneus, or heel bone, is the largest tarsal bone in the foot and forms the foundation of the heel. It plays a crucial role in weight-bearing, absorbing impact during walking, running, and jumping. The calcaneus articulates with the talus above, forming the subtalar joint, which allows foot inversion and eversion. It also serves as the attachment point for the Achilles tendon, contributing to propulsion and balance. This bone is essential for stability and movement in daily activities.
The original talus was provided by the Institute of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University Bratislava. 3D scanning was conducted using three scanners (PhoXi 3D Scanner XS, PhoXi 3D Scanner S, MotionCam 3D Color S) by the Slovak company Photoneo. The talus was scanned from various angles, and the final image was created by combining the scans using factory software.
The model is very detailed and possess all the features suitable to use for education purpose, e.g. at the Anatomy classes. It is a small structure, still its .STL file has size of 189 MB as it contains a lot of details. Small 3D printer is enough to print this structure .
